Alaba’s Contract Extension Offer Got

Withdrawn By Bayern Munich

German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich withdrew their offer to extend the contract to Nigerian-born Austrian international David Alaba, according to club president Herbert Hainer.

Alaba, 28, is out of contract next summer and ready to drop the Bavarians on a free transfer. Clubs from England and Spain are interested in his services.

The versatile defender has made nearly 400 appearances for Bayern and won 17 major awards since he debuted at the Allianz Arena in 2010.

Bayern had expected Alaba to extend his stay after he helped the club reach the treble last season, but any hope that the versatile defender would sign a new deal seemed to disappear when Hainer confirmed that the offer is no longer on the  table.

“We present him a very, very good, very fair and competitive offer, especially during these times,” said the Bayern boss, according to Bavarian media BR24.

“We told David’s agent during the last meeting that we wanted clarity and an answer by the end of October because we want to plan for such an important position and player. But we haven’t heard from until Saturday.

“Our sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, contacted the agent and the response was that the offer is still not satisfactory and that we should think more.

“So we decided to remove the offer from the table entirely. That means there are no longer any offers. ”

The news will be a boost to the crowd of suitors for Alaba, while other reports from Germany claim that the player and his representatives were shocked by Bayern’s decision to withdraw the offer from him.

Sport1 reports that the player continues to push to improve terms, but notes that “there are hardened fronts (between Alaba and Bayern) like never before.”

Alaba has continued to feature prominently for Bayern this season, with eight appearances in all competitions, but was left on the bench for Saturday’s 2-1 victory in Cologne.

Alaba, a natural left back, has often been deployed in central defense by manager Hansi Flick, while he can also play in midfield.
