Aubameyang Beats Arsenal In Europa Game In Rapid Vienna

Substitute Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winning goal as Arsenal rallied to win at Rapid Vienna in their first Europa League Group B match.

The hosts had taken the lead early in the second half when they took advantage of an error by Bernd Leno, as the goalkeeper’s attempted pass was intercepted by Taxiarchis Founta, who then shot home from a tight angle.

Another error by Leno was about to give a second to the Austrians when he hit a direct clearance to Fountas but he knew how to recover and stop the forward’s effort.

Arsenal, who made a full debut with £ 45m summer contract Thomas Partey, lacked quality in the final third as they struggled to open the hosts, but found bite from him when Aubameyang came off the bench.

David Luiz caught up with Arsenal when he headed a Nicolas Pepe free kick and Aubameyang secured the win when he took advantage of Mohamed Elneny’s excellent assist.

Leno still looked nervous dealing with passes back to him and another poor punt hit Luiz and deflected Fountas, but this time Rapid Vienna’s top scorer couldn’t capitalize.

But that was the only scare in the final stages when Arsenal closed the game to start their European campaign with an away win.
