Recap of first week in Big Brother Titans season 1 2023

We’re only just about to close off the first-ever week of Big Brother Titans, but we’ve got a lot to go over. These housemates have been packing in the content!

One week ago, we witnessed 20 housemates start off the first season of Big Brother Titans with a mammoth live show presented by Lawrence Maleka and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

There were so many housemates that the show was wall-to-wall introductions, rapid-fire interviews, and grand entrances.

The game, however, was only to start in earnest once the housemates woke up in the house for the very first time.

Mmeli is the first Head of the House

The big news on Monday was the first Head of House challenge for the season. The title grants the winner the opportunity to wallow in some luxurious digs as well as pick a person to share that bedroom.

As the winner of the challenge, Mmeli chose Ipeleng as his bedroom partner – a move that resulted in no small amount of handwringing.

The HoH titles come with some responsibilities, however. Aside from being Biggie’s agent in the house, Mmeli was required to marshal the resources of the house in an effort to win the wager task, which required the housemates to develop a song in which each sang for two minutes in an effort to share some information about themselves.

It quickly became clear that Mmeli is not the forceful type. His laid-back approach to his duties as Head of House sparked some consternation from his fellow housemates, but Mmeli was firm in the opinion that micromanagement is not his deal.

Mmeli always seemed to take on the HoH role with a little bit of reluctance, not even sitting on the throne until pushed by Biggie to do so. Once he was on it, he regretted leaving it so late. He found it rather comfortable.

As always, there is some room for debate, and the housemates were not exactly of one mind when they were asked about the matter during their diary sessions.

The wager failure
Of course, the proof of the pudding is in the tasting … but this pudding tasted bad. The housemates’ effort (or lack thereof) on the wager task was met with little more than disdain from Biggie, who could be no kinder than to refer to it as, “40 minutes of mediocrity”. Ouch.

Seriously, though – it’s hard to come to any conclusion other than that it could have been a lot better. The week has seen the housemates break out into impromptu song on more than one occasion, and it’s not been terrible.

If they had tackled the wager task with the same kind of energy, they may very well have walked away with a win, rather than a loss of 75% of their budget for next week. Lesson (hopefully) learned.

New housemates arrive
While the housemates were trying to drown their sorrows during their first pool party of the season, they had another surprise dumped on them: four new housemates! The reveal was met with the expected shock and surprise.

The new housemates quickly made an impression on everybody, including audiences at home. They’ve also shaken up a few things in the house, like the relationships that were only just starting to bloom.

Relationship drama
Okay, let’s just say it. Khoyemi isn’t exactly a thing, anymore – if it ever was. It got off to a very quick start, hit a few snags, and ended pretty abruptly. Who knows – by the time you read this, it may have started up again.

It’s hard to feel much about it one way or the other, because it all just happened so quickly. Nobody was really invested in it.

This is just as well, because – during his first diary session, not even one full day in the house – Miracle OP petitioned Big Brother to organize some alone time so that he could take Khosi on a date. Now that’s fast. And bold. And a little presumptuous if we’re being honest. Unsurprisingly, Biggie told him to pound sand.

Yemi, for his part, doesn’t look like he’s going to be all broken up about it. On Saturday afternoon, Nelisa asked him if he liked anybody in the house, and he “smoothly” replied with, “yes, you.” Again, we need to give him a few points for trying because Nelisa didn’t.

“You’re only saying that because I’m here.” Denied!

Fake nominations
Then there is the big news that isn’t: the housemates were required to nominate each other for eviction, and while we know that they’re safe, they certainly don’t.

What’s more, they don’t even know who received the largest number of votes, so they’ll be somewhat nervous going into the live show later tonight.

All that’s left for this week is tonight’s live show, after which Monday rolls around and the housemates have to jump through all the hoops again.
