With this latest single-day spike, the nationwide infection count has risen to 28,909,975, including 349,186 related deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry.

 

 

The daily burden of cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in India decreased for the third day in a row, as 100,636 cases were detected in the last 24 hours, data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) showed.

In addition, in the same period, 2,427 lives were lost due to Covid-19, which raised the number of related deaths to 349,186 and the mortality rate to 1.21%.

 

 

Recoveries amounted to 27,159,180, an addition of 174,399 downloads with the recovery rate further improving to 93.94%. Active cases were reduced to 1,401,609, registering a fall of 76,190 infections and comprising 4.85% of all cases.

 

 

On June 5, the country added 120,529 new infections and 3,380 related deaths from the previous 24 hours, while the corresponding figures for June 6 were 114,460 and 2,677 respectively.

 

 

These latest numbers come on a day when the national capital Delhi began the second phase of unlocking a Covid-19-induced lockdown that went into effect on April 19, after being announced earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra financial center began a “five-tier” unlocking of restrictions similar to the lockdown announced in mid-April.

 

 

While restrictions have also been relaxed in several other states and Union territories, others have expanded restrictions in an attempt to further break the chain of transmission.
