Squid Game is the latest hit series from the Netflix stable, and viewers around the world are hooked on it – a $ 21 million show that Bloomberg reported will bring in $ 891.1 million. As the series continues to gain traction, hackers and intruders are working overtime to take advantage of the viewers and fans alike.

After the security company flagged an app in the Play Store that was used to distribute malware, Google removed the app from the Play Store and users will have to remove the app from their devices. Read on to find out more about how to keep your devices secure.

The malware targeting fans of the popular Netflix Squid Game series was discovered by ESET researcher Lucas Stefanko, who studies malware at a security company. It is reported that an application known as “Squid Game Wallpaper 4K HD” was used to distribute the infamous Joker malware.

We have already talked about the Joker malware, this is not the first time that an application has infected an application in the store, but this is the first time it has been used to target viewers and fans of the new series.

According to the researcher, the app ( Squid Game) could lead to “malicious ad fraud and/or unwanted SMS subscription activity.” If this sounds like the way the Joker malware works, it’s probably because they both work the same way. This means that users can not only be bombarded with ads, but they can also subscribe to some premium services that will cost them a lot of money.

Although Google has already removed the app from the Play Store, Android users who download the app should remove it from their device immediately, as their devices could be at risk. They should also be aware of similar apps in the future and avoid apps that are not officially released by the original company, even if the app or game is offered for free.

As noted by the researcher, there are currently over 200 apps with the same theme available on the Play Store, and users should be careful when downloading these apps to keep their devices secure.
