Last season’s champions Liverpool will be motivated to build on their five-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League (PL) (W3, D2) as they chase a spot in the top four. However, the Merseysiders will be upset that it wasn’t a 100% record in that aforementioned sequence as they broke both draws on goals conceded after the 75th minute, including their last PL goal conceded (94:58) at Anfield. since at least 2006/07 the last time.

At home, it has been the final stages of the first period where Jürgen Klopp’s men have been most vulnerable recently, conceding three of their four previous “goals against” at home between 40′-HT. Given that they have only kept three clean sheets at PL’s home and none in their previous eight at Anfield (W1, D1, L6), we could see a replay here.

Southampton is on a steamy streak of just one PL win since mid-December (W1, D2, L8), but a win here would ensure their top-flight status. However, they failed to score in six of those 11 games and have not scored at Liverpool in four consecutive visits (D1, L3). Although to their credit they managed a 1-1 draw against Leicester last time despite a man being sent off in ten minutes, the second time this has happened this season!

A big problem for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men has been the closing of matches. He has conceded 14 goals away from PL after the 60th minute while scoring just two in response. That is one factor that explains why they have lost more points from winning positions than any other side of PL (23).

Players to Score: Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has scored in his two previous PL appearances at home, and scored two in this match last season; three of those four goals combined came after HT. For Southampton, James Ward-Prowse has scored the club’s second-highest number of PL goals (eight), though only one came in open play.
