Newcastle vs Man City Premier League
With the safety of the Premier League (PL) now assured, Newcastle United have found form at a good time, having won as many points in their last five games (W3, D1, L1) as in the previous 15 (W2, D4, L9)! Interestingly, they are finishing strong despite conceding an average of 1.86 goals per game in their last seven matches (W3, D2, L2).

Late goals have fueled their resurgence as the ‘Magpies’ completed the scoring in the 80th minute or later in three of their last four PL home games (G1, D2, L1). However, despite having also done it in each of the last two league H2Hs here, they only won one of the last 12 PL matches they have organized (D3, L8).

Saturday’s loss to Chelsea was Manchester City’s second loss in four league matches (W2), but the Champions League finalists clinched a fifth PL title without kicking a ball midweek, and they hope to start their celebrations with a win here. Although their missed penalty against the Londoners was the fourth highest of the season in the league, they remain a dead-ball threat, having scored 17 league set-piece goals (including penalties) this period.

Hoping to extend their own record of 11 straight away PL victories, Man City have scored more than 2 goals in nine of their last ten away league games, and have also scored between the 35th and 60th minutes on each one of the last four. They often camped in the middle of the opposition at the end, no team has conceded fewer corners in the second half on the road than they have this season (1.41 per game on average).

Players to Score: Newcastle’s Joe Willock has scored three goals in five PL home appearances, the last two after the 80th minute. Also, a threat as the matches progress, Sergio Agüero’s last three competitive goals for Man City arrived between minutes 55 and 80.

Important statistic: no previous PL season has seen more penalties (114-11 May), the previous record (112) held from 2006/07.
