On Wednesday, the police unleashed a barrage of shots at a gang of criminals that has been terrorizing the state of Kogi.
The thugs, dressed in military uniforms, participated in the Ajaokuta area while trying to kidnap civilians.
The gunmen had blocked the road and were stopping vehicles when men from the Police Anti-Crime Patrol Team arrived at the scene.
The ensuing battle killed two of the attackers, while three more escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered include two wooden AK47s, 25 assorted mobile phones, a First Bank ATM card with Mohammed Jamiu, and cash.
The police follow the trail of the fleeing members of the network, combing the surroundings of the place.
The Kogi government has praised the courage and quick response of the police officers.
Governor Yahaya Bello’s spokesman, Muhammed Onogwu, stated that the state is prepared to confront the perpetrators of crimes.
“Kogi has no abode for criminal elements, the state exists only for law-abiding people.
“Our brave security forces are on the ground to ensure that lives and property are secured,” Onogwu said.
