Sheffield United appears to be a team that simply wants this season to end, and after a 4-0 loss to Tottenham last Sunday, the relegated ‘Blades’ have now averaged exactly 0.5 points per game to date. That puts the class of 2020/21 on course for 19 points, and the status as the sixth Premier League (PL) team to finish with fewer than 20 points.

They can avoid that with a win here, which would see them win their first PL home game of a calendar month for the fourth time out of five possible such matches in 2021. Sheffield’s last two league wins at home they finished 1-0, courtesy of goals within the first 30 minutes, despite losing the possession bets by a margin of more than 35% in both games.

After three losses in a row, Crystal Palace needs to stop their own routine if they are to have any chance of finishing in the top half. They may be encouraged, however, knowing that their five-game PL form against teams that entered the new week in the last four reads: W4, D1, with January’s reverse H2H between the three wins to see them lead in HT.

Despite facing the most forceful attack in the league, Palace are still without a clean sheet win on the road since June 2020, and their last three away wins have seen the first two goals of the match shared. The same attribute applies to the first two goals scored in each of the Palace’s last seven away games to see both teams score.

Players to Score: The winner of the match in Sheffield’s last home game was David McGoldrick, who has scored 38.89% (seven) of his goals in PL this season. Meanwhile, in Palace’s last away win, Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the first goal with his only touch in the opponent’s area, thus becoming the 123rd French scorer in the PL.
