“It was the coolest thing ever,” said YouTuber Logan Paul after walking the distance with former undefeated five-weight world champion Floyd Mayweather.
Mayweather dominated the pay-per-view event, without delivering a knockout blow.
“Just going the distance was a win for him,” Mayweather said.
“When the money comes in, we’ll see who the winner is,” he added.
The 44-year-old said he hopes to make $ 50 million (£ 35 million) from the event and even referred to the exhibition as a “legalized bank robbery.”
Many in boxing had criticized the show before a punch was thrown. But there was certainly an appetite for him, not just from curious fight fans, but also from some of Paul’s 23 million YouTube followers.
Mexican boxing superstar Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez appeared to give her thoughts to her own Twitter followers of hers during the fight.
There was a suggestion that the lawsuit could have overwhelmed the servers of Showtime, the service that broadcast the fight, with some users complaining that they were unable to view it.
What they would have seen was a seasoned Mayweather activist, undefeated in 50 fights and considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, teach a man 18 years his junior, 16 kg heavier and six inches taller, a lesson.
There were many clashes in the middle rounds, but Paul showed his ability to take punishment and prevent Mayweather from finishing the competition early.
Paul’s only other fights were against another YouTube personality, KSI.
But Mayweather later admitted that he had underestimated Paul, calling him “a great young, strong, tough fighter” and saying “he’s better than he thought.”
“He’s a tough competitor, I’m surprised for him tonight,” he said.
“You must realize I’m not 21 anymore, but it’s good to move around with these young people, test my skills just to have fun,” Mayweather added, calling the event “a fun night.”
Paul was delighted to have gone the distance, even performing a handstand in the ring after the fight: “The fact that I’m here with one of the greatest fighters of all time shows that the odds can be beaten,” he said.
“It is one of the best moments of my life.”
Although he added: “I’m going to go home wondering if he will let me survive.”
